Stainless Steel 304 Flanges are robust, corrosion-resistant fittings made from an 18/8 chromium-nickel austenitic alloy, ideal for connecting pipes, valves, and equipment in diverse industrial settings like food processing, chemical, and oil/gas, offering good strength and weldability, and available in various types (slip-on, blind, weld neck) and pressure classes (150-2500) for high-temperature, general corrosive, or mild acidic services, noted for their durability and reliability in piping systems.
Key Characteristics
- Composition: Contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel, providing excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion.
- Corrosion Resistance: Handles general corrosive environments, atmospheric conditions, and mild organic/inorganic acids, though vulnerable to high chlorides.
- Strength: Offers good mechanical strength, with typical tensile strength around 515 MPa.
- Weldability: Low carbon content makes it suitable for welding, limiting carbide precipitation.
- Temperature Range: Operates well in high temperatures, up to around 870C (1600F).
- Magnetic Property: Generally non-magnetic in the annealed state, becoming slightly magnetic after cold working.
Common Types
- Slip-On: Slips over the pipe, easier to align, used in less critical applications.
- Weld Neck: Features a long tapered hub for stress distribution, ideal for high pressure/temp.
- Blind: Used to seal off the end of a pipe or vessel.
- Lap Joint: Used with a stub end, allows for rotation for alignment.
- Threaded: Screws onto threaded pipes.
